Baitadi. The India-Nepal border checkpoint at Jhulaghat, Baitadi is opening for 5 days this week for the Nepali pension receivers who had previously worked in India.

The District Administration Office on Friday released a notice on their official website which reads that the District Administration Office Baitadi and DM Office Pithoragarh are together coordinating and preparing to open the border checkpoint from November 23, Monday to November 27, Friday.

More than 1,200 Indian pensioners in Baitadi have not been able to receive their pensions since March when the government had sealed the borders. The following 5 days will be targeted to make it easier for pensioners to collect their pension from the Indian side. The people who have urgent and emergency work shall also be allowed to move around following health standard protocols.

Life has become much more difficult for people living in border areas. Last week, the Joint District Struggle Committee in Sarlahi had organized a two days peaceful sit-in demanding the opening of border checkpoints.
