Kathmandu. Nepal’s request to the Indian government for the purchase of 250 MW electricity has been approved from the Indian side.  The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) will now import up to 250 megawatt of electricity from India  this winter.

The NEA has explained that since the  water level decreases in the rivers and reservoirs during January, February and March, there will be less electricity output from hydropower projects in those months. Hence, to ensure the smooth supply of electricity in winter, the NEA is procuring electricity from December 1, 2020 to June 2021.

Out of 250 MW electricity, 80 to 150 MW is needed for daily consumption as that is deficit in the system while rest will be kept in reserve.
