Haribodhini Ekadashi being observed today
Kathmandu. The religious ritual of Haribodhini Ekadashi is being observed by the Hindus in the country today. The day dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the protector of life on earth, marks his awakening from his long summer sleep in his ocean palace.
A wedding of Tulasi (basil) is organized on this day. The Tulasi plant is very sacred for the Hindus and gets a place in every Nepali Hindu home. It is considered to have a high medicinal value and taken as a remedy for cold. It also boosts the immune system, as noted by ayurvedic practitioners.
On this day, devotees pay obeisance to Lord Vishnu by fasting as they believe Lord Vishnu offers blessings to those who celebrate this occasion.
People visit four Narayan temples in Kathmandu Valley, Changu Narayan of Bhaktapur, Bishankhu Narayan of Lalitpur, Sesh Narayan and Ichangu Narayan of Kathmandu districts to worship the god and observe the festival.
The temples are closed this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, except the Sesh Narayan Temple, which will be open for worship following safety protocols.
