China announces additional military assistance worth 50 million Yuan
Kathmandu. Wei Fenghe, State Councilor and Minister of National Defense of the People’s Republic of China, wrapped up his one-day Nepal visit on Sunday. During his visit, the Chinese Minister paid courtesy calls on President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the calls on, views were exchanged on matters of mutual interests including the further promotion of traditionally friendly relations between Nepal and China.
Earlier, Wei held a meeting with General Purna Chandra Thapa, Chief of the Army Staff of Nepali Army at Army Headquarters.
During the bilateral meeting, Minister Fenghe announced to provide military assistance worth 50 million Yuan to strengthen co-work and partnership between the armies of both countries. The support is for the Nepali Army to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and enhance the capacity of the NA.
Following the visit, Minister Wei said that though his visit was brief it remained very fruitful. “It (the visit) helped us to consolidate our relations and cooperation. I had very productive meetings with President, PM and CoAS. We are ready to strengthen our cooperation and collaboration.”
“Your country (Nepal) has a huge potential of future development, and we will extend every possible supports,” he added.
Minister Wei also extended an invitation to high-level leadership including Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa.
Minister Wei arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday morning and left in the evening. Upon his arrival and departure, he was received and seen off by Minister for Home Affairs Thapa, and other officials of the Government of Nepal at Tribhuvan International Airport. (Sharachchandra Bhandary/RSS)
