PM Oli hopes to settle the issues of the proposals at the secretariat, trying to form a majority
Kathmandu. The chaos in the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) created by the submission of the political document at the party secretariat by Executive Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ making numerous accusations at fellow Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is expected to settle down after the reply made by PM Oli through his proposal last Saturday.
Steps have been initiated to end the differences between the two leaders through discussions in the upcoming secretariat meeting on December 1.
“PM Oli has responded to the allegations made by comrade Prachanda. Now, the dispute has to be solved after a study and discussion on the two proposals,” news source close to PM Oli told DCNepal. “It is better not to take the proposals to the lower committees of the party as that would increase the problem of the party. All efforts should be directed to save the party unity.”
The Oli group has started working towards having an upper hand in the discussion in the secretariat by forming a majority. They would succeed in having a majority if party Vice Chair Bam Dev Gautam sided with them. The Oli group is hopeful that secretariat member and current Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa would support them and the addition of Bam Dev Gautam to their team would ensure their majority in the secretariat.
The Oli group has concluded that if they reached a majority, the proposals presented by both chairs individually could be discussed and the issue would be resolved easily. They have taken steps towards having talks with Bam Dev Gautam, it has been learnt.
Oli’s group is also aware that if the issue is not resolved in the secretariat meeting and the proposals reach the permanent and the central committees for discussion, they would be in a tight spot, being in the minority.
The Prachanda-Madhav group thinks it to be the appropriate time to demand the resignation of Oli from one of the two top posts he is holding currently. They have already published and distributed Prachanda’s proposal presented at the secretariat meeting in a booklet form among the party cadres and are set to take the proposals to the lower committees of the party.
The two factions in the NCP are more evident than ever. As the two chairs of the party have locked their horns for power and position, the party cadres have warned them repeatedly not to move the party towards a split. The party has not been steered safely away from the probable accident yet as the leaders still bear grudges against each other.
Prachanda is aided in his pursuit to cut PM Oli down to size by senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal and Vice Chair Bam Dev Gautam and spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
PM Oli is backed by Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokhrel, General Secretary Bishnu Paudel and Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’. The Prachanda faction is trying to bring Badal bak to their group. Badal says he has sided with PM Oli to keep the party united.
