European Union in final talks to negotiate deal with United Kingdom post Brexit
Kathmandu. European Union (EU) and United Kingdom resumed their talks in Brussels on Sunday in a “final throw of the dice” as they seek to negotiate a post-Brexit trade agreement before the Brexit transition period expires this month.
Frost told reporters at Brussels before leaving for London, “We will be working very hard to try to get a deal. We will be looking forward to meeting our European colleagues later on this afternoon.” As time runs out, British Chief Negotiator David Frost and his EU counterpart Michel Barnier have met in a last attempt to address the remaining problems in the trade talks.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke on Saturday as the talks between the representatives was not successful. They decided to “pause the talks in order to brief their Principals on the state of play of the negotiations.”
If the United Kingdom fails to reach a free trade agreement with the European Union, bilateral trade will fall back on the laws of the World Trade Organization (WTO) by 2021.
