Agriculture Ministry to procure 50k metric tons of urea
Kathmandu. The Government has authorized the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development to procure urea fertilizer through government-to-government (G2G) procurement process. Government spokesperson and Minister for Agriculture Parbat Gurung, speaking at a press meet, informed that the Ministry has been authorized to procure 50,000 metric tons of urea.
The government had decided earlier to borrow chemical fertilizers from Bangladesh during the paddy season. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had talked with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina Wajed and Bangladesh had consented to the proposal, but the procurement could not materialize. Nepal government then decided to purchase chemical fertilizer from Bangladesh.
The meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Nov 9 had decided to make the procurement of 50 thousand metric tons of fertilizer through G2G process.
