Govt decides to provide free insurance to 200 thousand workers
Kathmandu. Nepal government has decided to insure two hundred thousand workers and bear the insurance charge for their employment period. The meeting of the Cabinet on Thursday has decided on the free insurance of the works as proposed by the Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Rameshwar Raya Yadav.
The government decision is applicable to workers employed under the Prime Minister Employment Program. As per the record of the Ministry for Labor, Employment and Social Security, around 2 hundred thousand youths receive 100-day employment per year.
The same number of workers have been employed under the program this year too. They will be covered by the insurance during their 100-day employment period and the insured amount will be provided in case they fall sick or die or become injured in accident in their workplace.
Earlier, the government bore 60 percent of the insurance premium and the workers had to bear the remaining 40 percent. The new provision relieves the workers from the burden of paying the 40 percent of their insured sum as the Prime Minister Employment Program is bearing the whole amount.
The youths employed under the program are insured under Rashtriya Beema Sansthan. An employee dying during the 100-day period will receive up to Rs 700 thousand and the injured and mutilated will receive a certain proportion of the insured sum.
