US cyberattacks: about 50 firms affected
Kathmandu, December 21. The US Treasury and departments of Homeland Security, State and Defense were targeted by cyber attackers earlier this month. Secretary of State, Pompeo has blamed Russia for the attacks and US President-elect Biden has been thinking on various measures to counter Russia. President Trump also said in his series of tweets that China is to be blamed for it and not Russia.
According to an article in BBC, the attacks ‘genuinely impacted’ around 50 firms with 18,000 organizations having the malicious code in their networks. It is said that hackers compromised on the network of Texas IT Company SolarWinds, eventually gaining a high degree of control over it. The company has said that 18,000 of their customers are affected and it could take years to get over it.
Many other organizations are also have been said to be affected by such hackers getting into their networks, including those in the United Kingdom (UK).
