Kathmandu, December 25. Indian Prime Minister Modi has formally invited Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for India visit. According to initial reports, Prime Minister Oli is said to visit India in the first week of January.

It is said that an official invitation for Prime Minister Oli is to arrive soon after which official announcements shall be made. According to sources, Prime Minister Oli himself is involved in the preparations of the visit which has led the meetings between the foreign ministers to be left in distress.

Upon the request of the Indian side, PM Oli  has sent a small team to New Delhi which will coordinate with the Indian intelligence network to prepare for his visit to India. At a time of political crisis, with the party split and the House of Representatives dissolved, it is a mystery why the Indian side put forward a proposal for Prime Minister’s visit to India.

Nepal-India bilateral relations had hit a rough patch with the recent border issues. Suddenly, India has sent a proposal for PM Oli’s visit, signaling a change in India’s policy towards Nepal.

There is no doubt that PM Oli’s decision to visit India given the country’s current political situation is sending a message that he is trying to seek the support of the Indian government.
