Govt recommends National Assembly session for Jan 1
Kathmandu. The government has recommended for the calling of the session of the National Assembly on Jan 1. The late evening meeting of the newly- formed Council of Ministers on Friday made the recommendation to the president
As per the constitutional provision, the gap between the end of one session of Parliament and the commencement of another session should not exceed six months. The session must be held by Jan 1 in order to comply with the provision.
Earlier, on Dec 19, the Nepali Congress and Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal had jointly demanded that the government called the winter session of Parliament at the soonest.
Since the House of Representatives (Lower House) has been dissolved, the session of the National Assembly (Upper House) has only been called.
The National Assembly is the permanent house in the bicameral legislature system.
