Silver and copper items being smuggled to India confiscated

Jhapa. Police have recovered an idol worth Rs 1 million while it was being smuggled from Nepal to India. The smugglers were taking silver and copper idols, utensils and lamps to India from the Nakalbanda checkpoint at Mechinagar Municipality-6.

DSP Rajendra Pokharel, Area Police Office, Kakadvitta, said that the idol’s face was covered with paper and sealed in plastic. All the recovered items will be handed over to the customs office today. According to him, the recovered idols were not of archaeological importance but were taken under control as they were being smuggled to India.
