Kathmandu, December 29. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has blocked China from buying a goldmine in the Canadian Artic region. Prime Minister Trudeau has been facing immense pressure to curb the growing Chinese influence in the region.

Chinese state owned company Shandong Gold Mining Co. already owns a mine 120 miles north of the artic circle and had been seeking to buy one in this region. This is the second time the Canadian Prime Minister has vetoed on the deal after denying another deal in 2018. Under the Canadian law, the government can cross-check foreign enterprises and block it if poses any harm to the national security.

The Chinese embassy in Canada has said that they should provide a fair and non-discriminatory market environment for all, including China. They also added that politicization and interference in the name of national security was wrong.

The move is said to further strain relations between Canada and China as earlier, Meng Wanzhou, senior Huawei Technologies Co. executive was arrested in Canada in 2018.
