Chinese delegation returns after efforts to re-unite NCP fail
Kathmandu, December 30. After making a last-ditch attempt to save the ruling party from dividing, a four-member delegation headed by Guo Yezhou, deputy minister of the Foreign Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC), returned to China today.
As soon as the Chinese delegation landed in Kathmandu, they became busy in political meetings. They seemed worried about the split of NCP and wanted to increase their chances of reconciliation.
At present, the NCP is divided into two factions. One faction of the NCP is led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, while the other faction is led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) and Madhav Kumar Nepal. After the ruling party split into two factions and did not seem to reconcile on their own, China tried to bind it once again as it had done some time back while NCP was on the verge of division.
Although both the factions have not formally divided, both the factions have been conducting programs from convening separate central committee meetings to trainings at the ward level.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved the parliament, citing internal conflicts within the party and the Prachanda-Madhav faction removed PM Oli from the position of party chairman. After that, Prachanda was also suspended from the post of party executive chairman by the Oli-led faction.
Immediately after the split of the NCP, Chinese Ambassador to Kathmandu Hou Yanqi met President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prachanda, Madhav Kumar Nepal and Krishna Bahadur Mahara. However, those meetings were not successful and a high-ranking Chinese official’s team immediately landed in Kathmandu. Arriving in Kathmandu on Sunday, the Chinese delegation met with President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, NCP leaders Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Madhav Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal and other leaders of the Prachanda-Madhav Nepal faction. They also met Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba and chairman of Janata Samajbadi Party, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.
The Chinese delegation returned to China on a Himalayan Airlines’ N9787 flight at 10:13 am on Wednesday.
