Kathmandu, December 30. A large number of Indians have been found buying Chinese phones despite India’s border face-off with China. Many people were found revolting against Chinese products and calling for boycott. They also advocated for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-reliant India), banning over 200 Chinese android applications over the issue.
It is said that around 1.7 million Indians have purchased Chinese mobile phones online between October 2019 and October 2020. The top four brands that were purchased included Xiaomi, Vivo, realme and Oppo, all of them which were Chinese.
The sales of these mobile brands clearly shows that people favored Chinese brands inspite of the face-off with China at Galwan in June, which killed 20 Indian soldiers. In October, two popular online shopping portals in India, Flipkart and Amazon, started running festivals and festive discounts, which further boosted the sales.
