Prachanda-Madhav group prepares to launch joint agitation against dissolution of parliament
Kathmandu, Dec 30 : Prachanda-Madhav group of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has concluded that they should run protest programs against the dissolution of the government jointly. A meeting of the group’s agitation coordination committee on Wednesday discussed about holding joint programs against PM Oli’s decision.
Raghuji Pant, a member of the standing committee of the NCP (Prachanda-Madhav)group, informed that the issue of how to carry out agitation in the future was discussed at the meeting on Wednesday. He said to DCnepal, “Discussions were held on the modality of protest in the coming days. However, the program of the movement has not been announced. As we are planning to work together with other parties as well, the program of the agitation will be announced after discussing with other parties.”
After the dissolution of the parliament, the main opposition parties Nepali Congress, NCP (Prachanda-Madhav) group, Janata Samajwadi Party and Sajha Bibeksheel Party have been staging separate demonstrations. The NCP (Prachanda-Madhav) group has decided to initiate a joint movement of all these parties. “We will discuss for a joint movement with all parties, including the Congress,” Pant said.
Even if the NCP group launches a joint movement, the possibility of the Congress joining the movement is very low. A meeting of the opposition parties held at the office of the Congress Parliamentary Party on December 20, the same day as the dissolution of the parliament, had declared the dissolution of the parliament unconstitutional but had not decided on the agitation. After that, a meeting of the opposition parties was held at the Nepali Congress Party Office on December 21, but no decision was taken on a joint movement. It was agreed that a decision on the movement would be taken only after a decision was made by the central committee meeting of their party.
Prachanda-Madhav group and JSP, which had participated in both the meetings, were ready for the movement and have been demonstrating, albeit separately. However, no decision was taken about joint movement then as Nepali Congress seemed reluctant to do so. A meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) held on December 22 and 23 decided to hold a NC-only protest on December 28, but no decision to launch a movement against the dissolution of the Parliament had been taken.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba is not in the favor of agitating for the restoration of the parliament while senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel is in favor for it. The majority in the Congress are of the opinion that the protest should be carried out alone rather than jointly with other parties. Therefore, the possibility of the Nepali Congress joining the NCP (Prachanda-Madhav Nepal faction) is less likely, said one Nepali Congress leader.
