Assam to close down Muslim schools

Kathmandu, January 2. Assam, a state in which Modi’s BJP party has a majority, has passed a law that requires all Muslim schools in the state to be abolished.
Muslim schools, also known as Madrasas, are more than 700 in number the southeastern state of Assam. Leaders of the opposition have been criticizing the move as a tactic to wipe out Muslims.
A leader from the BJP party said that they need more doctors, police officers, bureaucrats and teachers from the minority Muslim community rather than Maulvis.
More recently, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in India have passed laws against forceful religious conversions, under which many Muslim men have been arrested.
