India protests against demolition of Hindu temple in Pakistan
Kathmandu, January 3. On December 30, in the southern Karak district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, a clerical-led mob vandalized and burnt down a Hindu temple. India has protested and demanded a copy of the investigation report.
The temple had stopped taking religious offerings post the partition of India and Pakistan, but the Pakistani Supreme Court handed over the authority to the Hindu community four years ago. The temple was currently being renovated and expanded, which led to hostility among the inhabitants.
According to a press release from the Pakistani Supreme Court, the chief justice has taken over the matter and has ordered for investigation. Provincial Chief Mahmood Khan also has said that the temple shall be renovated and “strict action” shall be taken against the culprits.
Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Friday protested to convey “serious concerns to Pakistan High Commission at repeated instances of similar nature, of atrocities against the members of the minority community”. However, the Indian government is yet to give any official statement.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs have demanded the investigation reports to be shared with the ministry and urged Pakistan to maintain religious and cultural harmony.
