Japan likely to declare state of emergency as coronavirus cases surge
Kathmandu, January 4. Japan is likely to go into a second phase of lockdown as coronavirus cases have been on the surge in Tokyo.
Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and his government is likely to declare a state of emergency as cases didn’t fall down even after the New Year. PM Suga added that strict measures are necessary as cases are on the climb.
Japan witnessed a total of 4,520 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, while 884 cases were recorded in Tokyo on Monday. PM Suga is planning to revise the virus related laws during the next Diet session of the cabinet, which shall commence from January 18. PM Suga also said that Japan will get access to the COVID-19 vaccine by late February and vaccination shall start from the frontline workers.
Tokyo Metropolitan Area which includes the capital and other cities, accounts for more than half of the country’s coronavirus cases.
Ex-prime minister Shinzo Abe had declared a state of emergency on April 7.
