Kathmandu, Jan 8 : Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali is visiting India on Jan 14. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli informed about the imminent India visit of Minister Gyawali while addressing a Nepal Communist party (NCP) cadre meet at Dhangadhi.
While addressing the NCP cadres gathering, PM Oli said, “Minister Gyawali is going to India on Jan 14. I have told him to discuss with India regarding the proper management of the Gaurifanta transit point too.”
Minister for Foreign Affairs Gyawali is visiting India after the dissolution of the House of Representatives. Nepal’s strained relations with India had just begun to take positive turns through diplomatic channels and high-level visits, when Nepal’s ruling party NCP’s own intraparty tussle seems to hinder the developments. Foreign Minister Gyawali’s India visit is therefore meaningful and important for Nepal in many aspects.
Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had offered Minister Gyawali the invitation during his recent Nepal visit. The invitation had opened the possibility of minister-level talks which is a positive sign considering the Indian reticence after Nepal issued its map including Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura.
Prime Minister Oli, meanwhile, has confirmed that Minister Gyawali is making the trip to India amidst the border issues between the two countries and the political instability in Nepal created by the NCP feud.
