India tops list of countries curbing citizens’ internet access

Kathmandu, January 10. According to a report from a UK-based digital privacy and security research group, internet curbs in India account to $2.8 billion, making it top the list of countries curbing internet access for citizens.

The financial losses through internet curbing has doubled than that of 2019 . The total cost of the internet blackouts was calculated through indicators from World Bank, International Telecommunication Union and the Delhi-based Software Freedom Law Center. The total internet blackout or internet curb hours were 8,927, highest amongst the countries evaluated.

It is also said that Kashmir suffered bandwidth curbing after its reintegration into India in 2019.
