South Africa to store Covid vaccines in secret place
Kathmandu. South Africa has ordered 1.5 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from India. The first 1 million is expected to be delivered in January whereas the rest 5 million in February.
Fearing the theft, the South African government has decided to store the imported vaccines in a highly secured secret place. Popo Maja, official spokesperson of the Health Ministry said, “The vaccines are a highly-rated commodity once they’re stolen and reach the black market. So, we may not even disclose where it is being centrally stored.”
According to media reports, the South African Government has prioritized 1.25 million health workers in the first phase of the vaccination. The consignment will pass from a central secret place to various hospitals, clinics and pharmacies.
South Africa has been largely affected by the pandemic. More than 21 thousand new cases and 399 deaths were recorded on Sunday.
