Nepali climbers made history scaling K2 for the first time in winter season
Kathmandu, Jan 16 : 10 Nepali mountaineers made the first ever winter ascent new mountaineering history by climbing the world’s second highest peak Mt K2 (8,611 meters) this afternoon.
Chhang Dawa Sherpa, director of Seven Summit Treks, has told Dcnepal that 10 Nepali climbers reached the summit Mt K2 (Chhogori 8611m) around 4:58 pm (Nepali time) and are now returning to camp 3.
This is the first successful scaling in winter season of the second highest mountain in the world. So after summitting the Mt K2, the whole team planned to stop 10m below the summit, they formed a group, got the summit together and sang Nepal’s National Anthem. “This is the greatest achievement in the history of mountaineering and it is a good example of team work” Sherpa added.
Similarly, the 10 Nepali climbers making the ascent are Nirmal Purja, Gelje Sherpa, Mingma David Sherpa, Mingma G, Sona Sherpa, Mingma Tenzi Sherpa, Pem Chiri Sherpa, Dawa Temba Sherpa, Kili Pemba Sherpa and Dawa Tenjing Sherpa.
