Kathmandu, January 19. Snowfall at places of high altitude and high mountains are normal. But if snow is seen in hot places, like in the deserts, then it is considered abnormal.

Currently, deserts in Saudi Arabia have been experiencing snowfall whereas the Sahara desert is seen covered with ice blankets.

According to an article in Daily Mail, the temperatures in the Sahara and other deserts in Saudi Arabia have plummeted to -2 degree celsius.

Ain Sefra is called the gateway to the Sahara desert. Located at an altitude of about 1,000 feet [1,000 m] above sea level, the area is surrounded by the Atlas Mountains. The Sahara Desert covers most of North Africa. Ain Sefra is now dry but it is estimated that the area will be green again after about 15,000 years.

Locals in Saudi Arabia have expressed their happiness over the snowfall. According to the article, this is the lowest temperature recorded in the region after nearly 50 years.

The temperatures in this region range from 12-40 degree celsius depending upon the seasons. But such a plunge in temperature is surely a rare sight to be seen.
