Relief distributed to coronavirus-battered Nepali in Portugal

Portugal, January 25. A second phase relief is to be distributed to some coronavirus-battered Nepali community people in Portugal. With the declaration of the government-enforced state of emergency in the first phase, a COVID-19 Relief Distribution Committee was formed under the premiership of Nepal’s honorary consulate-general Makar Hamal.

The first phase of relief distribution was carried out following the formation of the committee. As many as 400 Nepali community people were benefitted from the relief distribution. It may be noted that several Nepali had to lose their employment opportunities after the Portugal government enforced the third phase of the state of emergency.

According to the relief distribution committee, relief would be rendered focusing on coronavirus-infected, lactating mother, elderly people and people with chronic disease. In order to make relief distribution well-managed, the committee’s secretariat has formed a data collection committee under the coordination of secretariat member of the relief distribution committee Govidna Poudel for collecting details of Nepali facing trouble in Portugal due to coronavirus.

The committee comprises journalists and representatives from various organizations. Coordinator Poudel shared that the data collection committee would identify Nepali community people facing trouble and recommend for the distribution of relief to the indignant people. So far three Nepali people have lost their lives in Portugal due to COVID-19.
