Syria launches new note to protect its economy
Kathmandu, January 25. In order to cope with inflation and secure the cash-based trading needs, the Central Bank of Syria on Sunday introduced a new note for 5,000 Syrian pounds(SYP).
According to the official press release, the financial note was printed in 2018, but was made public only on Sunday as “the time has become appropriate, according to the current economic variables, to introduce the new banknote.”
Due to the prolonged war, the economy of the country has shrunk heavily. To confront the falling value of its currency, the government earlier in 2017, had released 2,000 SYP notes.
The latest notes have more authentication features that make them harder to fake and are clearly distinguishable from fakes.
