India imposes permanent ban on Tiktok and 58 other Chinese apps
Kathmandu. January 26. The Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Monday through an official notice issued a multiple order under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act imposing a permanent ban on 59 Chinese mobile phone apps including TikTok.
Earlier in June, the Government had issued a temporary ban notice on 177 Chinese apps asking for explanation. TikTok was among the first companies to comply with the directive. Recently, Tiktok stated that the company is evaluating the notice and will soon respond to it.
Again in September, The ministry imposed a ban on 118 mobile apps including PUBG by stating that the apps violated national security, sovereignty and public order.
Media reports suggest that Monday’s announcement of permanent ban is the result of convincing explanations received by the Ministry from the owner of the apps.
