Kathmandu, February 13. On Friday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) released new guidelines advising schools to reopen safely and as quickly as possible, while providing a comprehensive strategy to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

The strategy stresses universal masking, handwashing, disinfection and direct tracing. However, it has given less importance to ventilation and the primary transmission path of the viral transmission. Agency Director Rochelle Walensky informed that the CDC released an operational plan from kindergarten to grade 12 students, by gradual mitigation it assists schools in completely reopening up to in-person schooling.

Since younger children are at lower risk than older children, the guidelines propose that in areas with moderate transmission (50 to 99 new cases per 100k), middle and high schools should turn to hybrid learning. And, where the transmission is more than 100 new cases per 100k, the schools should move to complete virtual learning.

The construction of guidelines is based on a recent research report by CDC experts, who suggested that in-person schooling can be safe if the school and the surrounding community follow the health safety instructions.
