UK PM Boris Johnson tells German Chancellor Angela Merkel to mute her microphone during the G7 conference
Kathmandu, February 20. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson asked German Chancellor Angela Merkel to mute her microphone after she accidentally interrupted him during the G7 online conference on Friday.
Friday’s meeting of the G7 leaders hosted by PM Johnson was the first session since April 2020. During the meeting, Mr Johnson encouraged the developing nations to give hand in the global supply of anti-COVID vaccines.
Johnson said, “There is no point in us vaccinating our individual populations – we’ve got to make sure the whole world is vaccinated because this is a global pandemic and it’s no use one country being far ahead of another, we’ve got to move together.”
While Johnson was starting the session by greeting his guests, Angela Merkel was heard speaking in the background. Laughing quietly Johnson said, “Can you hear us Angela, I think you need to mute.”
The virtual session was the first multilateral conference attended by the newly elected US president Joe Biden. The meeting was attended by other leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
