Cholera tops 5,000 cases in Southern Africa
Kathmandu. February 24. UNICEF on Wednesday announced that at least 5,000 cases of Cholera and 55 deaths have been reported in the Southern African nation Mozambique since the beginning of 2021.
The northern areas of the African nation are severely affected where thousands of cases of the disease have been recorded among the displaced population, who are seeking food and shelter in refugee camps.
UNICEF spokesman in Mozambique, Daniel Timme said that the water supply and sanitation facilities are insufficient and require an immediate boost. ‘The victims of violence, who are at high risk of the infection should be kept in top priority.’ noted Timme.
Moreover, the local population has also been affected due to infections that stem from poor sewage treatment.
