Burger King deletes tweet after facing backlash for sexist tweet on Women’s Day
Kathmandu, March 9. Burger King UK has faced severe backlash for its tweet on International Women’s Day on March 8.
They tweeted, “Women belong in the kitchen”. Their tweet did not go well with the audience and have faced various abuses and comments on the sexist tweet.
But Burger King UK has clarified that they had tweeted the tweet to provide scholarships for women under their new scheme. They deleted the tweet and wrote, “We hear you. We got our initial tweet wrong and we’re sorry. Our aim was to draw attention to the fact that only 20 per cent of professional chefs in UK kitchens are women and to help change that by awarding culinary scholarships. We will do better next time.”
Burger King’s apology also did not go well with the netizens and bashed them for double standards, adding that the first tweet must not have been approved in the first place.
We decided to delete the original tweet after our apology. It was brought to our attention that there were abusive comments in the thread and we don't want to leave the space open for that.
