Kathmandu, March 11. American technology giant Apple Inc. on Thursday announced that it has begun the process of manufacturing its newest iPhone 12 in India, the second-biggest smartphone market in the world.

The official statement reads, “We are proud to be starting production of iPhone 12 in India for our local customers.”

According to sources, the new plant will be constructed and operated in Tamil Nadu by Foxconn, Apple’s Taiwanese contract manufacturer.

As the trade war between the US and China worsens, sources claim that Apple is planning to shift its production plants from China to other neighbouring countries.

Indian Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad wrote on his official Twitter page,  “Nice to see our efforts to make India a big hub of mobile and components manufacturing is attracting global attention. This will create jobs in large numbers.”
