Moderna announces Vaccine Trials For Children
Kathmandu, March 16. On Tuesday, the American Biopharmaceutical company, Moderna announced that it has begun the vaccine trials of its mRNA-1273 vaccine for children aged 6 months to 12 years.
According to the official statement, 6,750 healthy children from the United States and Canada will participate as volunteers in the second phase study of the vaccine.
Earlier in October, Moderna had released a 135-page blueprint document that revealed that the mRNA-1273 vaccine is the first of its kind which “instead of preventing infection, teaches the body to better fight the virus”, and hopefully will reduce its severity to that of a common cold.
In November, Moderna processed the preliminary data on its three-phased experimental study and announced that its vaccine is 94.5 per cent effective. So far, 17.8 million adults in the United States have already received at least one shot of the mRNA vaccine.
Last month, The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized single-shot Johnson & Johnson’s COVID vaccine for emergency use. Claiming the effectiveness of more than 85%, Johnson and Johnson promised to deliver 100 million doses of the vaccine to the United States in 2021. The first 20 million doses will be delivered by the end of this month.
