Portugal opens world’s longest suspension bridge

Kathmandu, May 1. Portugal has opened the world’s largest suspension bridge for the public. It is 516 metres (1,700 feet) long and hangs 175 metres above the River Paiva.
The bridge is located inside the UNESCO-recognised Arouca Geopark. The people of nearby town were allowed to walk over the bridge on Thursday before its inauguration on Sunday.
People who crossed the bridge shared their experiences. Arouca’s mayor, Margarida Belem has also said that the inauguration of the bridge as an important as it will allow to resume the area’s tourist activities.
The bridge is expected to become a popular tourist destination after COVID-19 has crippled the economy in the region.
The bridge is named “Arouca 516“. It took almost two years to be constructed.
It has broke the record for the longest pedestrian suspension bridge after the Charles Kuonen Bridge at Randa, in the Swiss Alps.
