Kathmandu, May 9. As the country is battling the second wave of Coronavirus, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has announced that it is immediately sending 100 oxygen concentrators to Nepal.

On Friday, NRNA President Kumar Pant chaired an emergency meeting with the committee that agreed on immediately exporting oxygen concentrators worth 20 lakhs Nepali Rupees. The meeting discussed the need for short and long-term plans for sustainable management of medical oxygen.

Media reports suggest that the Association is setting up an isolation centre in Janakpur at the cost of USD 15,000. For the project, the NRNA-UK has requested the Government of the United Kingdom for financial aid.

An OXYGEN CONCENTRATOR is an electric device that filters out nitrogen from the ambient air while producing an oxygen-rich gas stream that is supplied to the patient through nasal tubes and masks. These electric units are portable alternatives to heavy cylinders. They can only provide 5-10 litres of oxygen per minute and also do not require refilling.
