PM Oli’s proposal for vote of confidence rejected

Kathmandu, May 10: The proposal tabled by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to make clear that he has vote of confidence for the House of Representatives (HoR) got rejected.
In today’s second meeting of the HoR, a total of 93 votes were cast in favour of the motion while 124 were in opposition.
On the occasion, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota announced that the proposal tabled by PM Oli was rejected as the proposal did not receive required majority for the same. Similarly, 15 parliamentarians remained neutral. Sapkota shared that 232 HoR members were present in the meeting. The proposal for the motion of confidence was rejected after other parties did not lend their support to the ruling CPN (UML) in the motion.
Lawmakers of the Khanal-Nepal group remained absent in the meeting. Similarly, Rajendra Prasad Lingden of Rastriya Prajatantra Party remained absent as he is infected with corona virus.
The main opposition Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre) cast their vote against the proposal. Some parliamentarians of Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal remained neutral while some of them cast their vote against the proposal.
Out of 271 existing number of HoR members, 136 votes was required to pass the motion of trust. Two hundred sixty-six HoR members except the Speaker had rights to cast vote on the proposal. A total of 121 members of the CPN (UML), 48 of the CPN (Maoist Centre), 32 of Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, one each of Rastriya Janamorcha, Nepal Workers and Peasant Party and RPP and one independent lawmaker were eligible to cast their vote.
