Florida governor signs bill against ‘deplatforming’ of Florida politicians from social media
Kathmandu, May 25. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill that would force social media companies to pay large amount of fines if they remove their politicians from social media platforms.
The governor signed the bill on Monday where the companies may have to pay fines ranging from $25,000 to $250,000 per day, depending on the local or state candidate of Florida.
Residents of Florida can also sue social media platforms for up to $100,000, if they feel they are mistreated.

The legislation will come into effect on July 1.
“Some of these massive, massive companies in Silicon Valley are exerting a power over our population that has no precedent in American history. One of their major missions seems to be suppressing ideas”, DeSantis said during an event in Miami celebrating the bill.
His decision comes after Trump was banned from social media platform after the Capital Riots on January 6.
Many companies and tech firms have called the step ‘unconstitutional’.
