Kathmandu, May 25. During a promotional event for his newly released film “Fast & Furious 9″, WWE superstar John Cena called Taiwan a “country”.

As the remark sparked anger among his Chinese fans, the superstar on Tuesday issued an apology to China.

He posted a video on Sina Weibo in which he was heard saying, “I love and respect China and Chinese people. You must understand that I really love, really respect China and the Chinese people. I’m very, very sorry about my mistake.”

Beijing considers self-ruled Taiwan as a part of its territory. The relationship between China and Taiwan is cold as Taiwan recognizes itself as an independent state. In such a situation, Cena’s comment caused a serious impact on the world’s largest movie market.

Although Cena denied to have spoken about the tensions between the two states, past evidence shows that Cena is inclined towards China. The WWE world champion has gone viral multiple times for his ability to speak Chinese Mandarin language.
