Nepal Airlines commits to support president’s dream of “carbon-neutral state”

Kathmandu, June 2. Issuing an official statement on Wednesday, Nepal Airlines Corporation announced that it will fully support President Bidhya Devi Bhandari’s goal of “transforming Nepal into a carbon-neutral state by 2050”.

Spokesperson Karishma Shrestha expressed that the Corporation is committed to begin environment-friendly activities in the near future. 

The national air operator also confirmed that it has received green signals for the Emission Monitoring Plan (EMP) under the South Asia Aviation Partnership Project.

EU – South Asia Aviation Partnership Project

A project funded by the European Union that aims to ensure environmental and climate protection in the field of civil aviation.

The project also focuses on enhancing relations between South Asian and European institutions through technical exchanges between the aviation industries, therefore improving the environmental performance of the South Asian aviation sector.

Nepal’s dream of a carbon-neutral state

While speaking at Sunday’s virtual Seoul summit of P4G (Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030), President Bhandari expressed Nepal’s long term goal of becoming a carbon-neutral country by 2050. Bhandari also mentioned the necessity of climate focussed investments in the least developed countries like Nepal.
