DailyMail UK reports “Nepal variant”, WHO denies

Kathmandu, June 3. A leading British tabloid named Daily Mail has reported of a new variant in Nepal and has termed it as “Nepal variant”.

They have reported that due to the “Nepal variant”, their holiday destinations shall be affected.

They have reported, “Scientists have alerted ministers to the mutant strain – thought to have originated in Nepal – which has apparently spread to Europe. They fear the strain is resistant to vaccines.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) has denied all the claims and has revealed that only three variants are found in Nepal. Through their Twitter handle, they wrote, “WHO is not aware of any new variant of SARS-CoV-2 being detected in Nepal. The 3 confirmed variants in circulation are: Alpha (B.1.1.7), Delta (B.1.617.2) and Kappa (B.1.617.1). The predominant variant currently in circulation in Nepal is Delta (B.1.617.2)”

The Ministry of Health and Population(MoHP) has so far announced that only three variants named Alpha (B.1.1.7), Delta (B.1.617.2) and Kappa (B.1.617.1) being currently present in Nepal.
