Kathmandu, June 14. China has criticized the G7 countries for focusing their discussion upon issues of Xinjiang and Hong Kong.

China on Monday accused the G7 countries of “political manipulation” over their internal matters.

The Chinese embassy spokesperson in London said, “The Group of Seven (G-7) takes advantage of Xinjiang-related issues to engage in political manipulation and interfere in China’s internal affairs, which we firmly oppose”

In a joint communique released by the G7 in England, the G7 leaders slammed China over abuses against minorities in the Xinjiang region and pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong. US President Joe Biden even called for Beijing to “start acting more responsibly in terms of international norms on human rights”.

The G7 countries have also called on China for a fair and scientific investigation to be allowed to trace COVID-19 origins.

The G7 also have agreed upon covid vaccines, climate change and other issues of trade and economy.

China had warned G7 leaders

China on Sunday pointedly cautioned Group of Seven leaders that the days when “small” groups of countries decided the fate of the world was long gone.

A spokesman for the Chinese embassy in London said, “The days when global decisions were dictated by a small group of countries are long gone. We always believe that countries, big or small, strong or weak, poor or rich, are equals, and that world affairs should be handled through consultation by all countries.”

The Chinese spokesman said the only valid global system was the international order based on the principles of the United Nations and “not the so-called rules formulated by a small number of countries.”

The G7 are planning to offer developing nations an infrastructure scheme that could rival Xi’s multi-trillion-dollar Belt and Road initiative.
