Human Rights Commission wants no protection for individuals who discriminate on the basis of caste.
Kathmandu, June 30. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has demanded that those guilty of caste-based discrimination and untouchability receive no protection.
The rights organization has asked the government to treat cases of caste-based discrimination and untouchability with respect, to bring perpetrators under the law through fair and efficient prosecution, and to defend victims’ rights to justice, dignity, and equality.
The National Human Rights Commission also encouraged everyone to exhibit discipline and social harmony when posting their opinions on social media.
According to the statement, it has taken the accusation (it received) that public figure Rupa Sunar was subjected to caste-based harassment while looking for a room seriously and is carefully following the police and law enforcement authorities’ inquiry.
NHRC officials also seated a meeting with Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha to discuss the issue of him escorting the accused from the police station to her house. Minister assured that the incident would not be repeated in the future.
