74 thousand goats vaccinated in Parsa
Kathmandu, July 4. More than 74 thousand goats in 14 wards of Parsa district have received vaccination against viral infection, Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) or “Goat Plague.”
Parsa District Livestock Office confirmed that it received 74 thousand doses of vaccine from the Janakpur laboratory.
Every year, authorities administer vaccines to thousands of goats. This year the contagious plague is looming around Parsa. An urgent vaccination drive is essential for preventing the economic loss of goat herders.
But this year, more than half of the goat population are still unvaccinated. The District had ordered 1.5 lakh doses from the Janakpur laboratory. 76 thousand doses are yet to be delivered.
The vaccines are meant for adult goats and kids above three months. Vaccine shots should not be given to newborn and pregnant goats.
