IPCC report says that climate change will increasingly affect all regions
Kathmandu, Aug 10. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a report on Monday. It has reported that climate change is intensifying the water cycle, bringing more intense rainfall and associated flooding, as well as more intense drought in many regions.
Scientists have projected that in the coming decades climate changes will increase in all regions, and there would be increasing heat waves, longer warm seasons and shorter cold seasons.
The new estimates of the chances of crossing the global warming level of 1.5 degrees Celsius in the next decades, and found that unless there are “immediate, rapid and large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, limiting warming to close to 1.5 or even 2 degrees Celsius will be beyond reach.”
The report has also mentioned that coastal areas will repeatedly see rise in temperatures throughout the 21st century. Changes in the ocean such as marine heatwaves and ocean acidification could also take place as a result of human activities. Strong and sustained reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and other greenhouse gases is said to limit climate change.
Scientists have concluded that as we have a picture of past, present and future, we should understand and prepare ways on how to tackle the changes.
