Kathmandu, Aug 10. London’s famous Tower Bridge was stuck open due to a technical fault on Monday. It caused traffic for transport trying to cross River Thames.
A spokeswoman for the City of London police force said that as the bridge allows boats to pass underneath by bending the road, got stuck shortly before 2:45 pm local time.
The bridge’s two arms, or bascules is said to have been operated by engines powered by oil and electricity since 1976. It replaced the original steam-powered ones that dated back to the 19th century.
The City of London Corporation, that owns the bridge stated that due to a technical issue, the bridge was in a raised position and that they will resolve the issue soon.
This was the second time in a year that the bridge got stuck. In August 2020, it was closed for more 24 hours when its bascules jammed in an open position.
In recent developments, the bridge is said to have re-opened after 12 hours.
