Kathmandu, Aug 14. Canada has decided to resettle around 20,000 Afghans given the current situation in their country.

Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino said on Friday that they will accept women leaders, human rights workers and other people who worked for the Canadian government previously, to protect them from the Taliban. He said, “As the Taliban continues to take over more of Afghanistan, many more Afghans’ lives are under increasing threat”.

Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan revealed that some Canadian special forces were in Afghanistan taking part in the relocation effort but gave no details. He also added that the situation at the ground was quite intense.

Canada’s new plan for the vulnerable population is said to cover both people who want to leave Afghanistan and those already in neighboring countries.

The Taliban have seized Afghanistan’s second-and third-biggest cities as resistance from government forces failed.
