Facebook to allow end-to-end encryption for calls and video
Kathmandu, Aug 15. Facebook has rolled out a feature that allows end-to-end encryption for voice and video calls.Facebook’s other apps such as WhatsApp and Messenger already have end-to-end encryption on text messages.
End-to-end encrypted calls or chats allows access only between the sender and the receiver. Facebook cannot get access to messages between the sender and receiver. It also allows your chats to be safe from hackers and cyber criminals.
While announcing the feature, Facebook said, “Since 2016, we’ve offered the option to secure your one-on-one text chats with end-to-end encryption. In the past year, we’ve seen a surge in the use of audio and video calling with more than 150 million video calls a day on Messenger. Now we’re introducing calling to this chat mode, so you can secure your audio and video calls with this same technology if you choose.”
Facebook has also announced its disappearing messages feature that will allow users to keep a timer on the message from 5 seconds to 24 hours. They are planning to launch the end-to-end encryption feature on Instagram as well.
