Kathmandu, August 22. Five of the Taliban’s key websites, as well as a WhatsApp group, appear to have vanished from the internet.

According to the Washington Post, Taliban websites in Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Urdu, and English languages went offline unexpectedly on Friday. The sites have been making waves on the internet for the past several weeks.

The SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks online terrorist activities, has yet to pinpoint the cause of the site outage. Cloudflare, the company responsible for the security management of the Talibani sites, has yet to respond to the issue.

Whatsapp spokesperson Alison Bonny denied the firm’s participation in the outage but said that the company is bound by US sanctions laws, which require the company to ban suspected Taliban official accounts.

Media reports suggest that social media companies such as Twitter and YouTube are also taking efforts to enforce Taliban restrictions.
