Kathmandu, October 4. Following the shutdown of the 30-KW Dajung Khola Micro hydropower project, five villages in Myagdi have been forced to live in the dark.

Hydropower’s administrative head, Nanda Bahadur Gharti informed that the project was halted after major faults were identified in the core of the powerhouse turbine.

The powerhouse provided electricity to 393 households living in villages of Chyribot, Okharbot, Mahabhir, Chhap and Khaten. “These villages have no access to the national grid,” Gharti noted.

The villagers are pleading with the government and the project to provide immediate alternatives such as battery-powered emergency lights and candle lamps.
