American Airlines cancelled 1,500 flights during Halloween weekend
Kathmandu, November 1. Due to staff shortages, American Airlines cancelled almost 1,500 flights over the weekend.
On Sunday, the airliner announced that 1,800 of its flight attendants were on leave, causing a shortage of staff. Furthermore, the number of flight bookings has sharply increased after the pandemic. Therefore, the company was forced to cancel more than 10 per cent of its daily flights.
The airline confirmed that it had cancelled 1525 flights between Friday and Sunday, including 634 flights cancelled only on Sunday. Many of the flights could not fly due to severe winds in Dallas-Fort Worth, the airline’s major hub.
Chief Operating Officer of American airlines David Seymour wrote a letter, “Most of the customers being impacted by these changes are being rebooked the same day. We apologize for having to make these changes.”
Seymour also told reporters that the airlines won’t suffer from staff shortages as the 1,800 attendants will be back to work by the end of November and the company is also recruiting 600 new attendants before Christmas.
